在實作中累積經驗、建立自信
Joining this summer internship program was a completely new challenge for me. Although I had acquired theoretical knowledge from coursework and had some hands-on lab experience, my practical skills were not yet proficient. Therefore, I was eager to strengthen my abilities at Academia Sinica.
I was incredibly fortunate to join Dr. Tsung-Lin Li’s lab. During our initial interview, Dr. Li gave me encouragement and guided me to explore research directions. This quickly alleviated my anxiety and made me feel completely comfortable asking questions whenever I encountered difficulties later on. Here, I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Roger, who always patiently taught me step by step through all my questions, from helping me define my project to walking me through every single experimental procedure and data analysis.
Looking back, having the opportunity to be an intern in this lab has been an invaluable learning experience. I grew from being technically unversed and only knowing basic operations to independently executing experimental workflows and interpreting data. Yet beyond the technical and academic growth, what is even more precious to me is the time spent here. It not only shaped me into a more capable learner, but also made this summer a truly fulfilling and joyful chapter of my university life.

首先,謝謝GRC的人員們舉辦這個計畫,並在計畫其中一直關注我們的身心健康。並且,謝謝林國儀老師,教導我研究發想,並且給我這個機會,讓我能加入您的實驗室學習。最後,謝謝毅軒學長與實驗室的所有人,教我如何做實驗並協助我解決問題。
在這短短兩個月的計畫中,學習到了非常多,從一開始跟老師討論這兩個月要做的事情,老師一步一步帶著我組織、發想出我的研究架構,再到學長帶我做了很多從前沒有機會接觸的實驗。最後,到報告的準備,老師與實驗室的學長姐們提供給我許多機會,讓我去練習與嘗試用英文來報告,並且提供寶貴的意見讓我成長。這一切都非常的有趣,而且拓展了我的視野,讓我進步許多。推薦大家來申請GRC的暑期大專生實習計畫!
其實從年初就觀望此實習計畫了。申請時花了好幾週從中研院官網的不同院所網站一個一個搜尋適合的實驗室,才找到陳緯老師的實驗室和基因體研究中心實習計畫。
接下來整整兩個月的實習日子,讓我覺得當時苦苦尋覓的辛苦都是值得的。
從實習第一天開始,實驗室的氛圍非常融洽,所有學長姐都會傾囊相助,手把手地帶領我學習所有基礎分生技術,也會經驗指導我如何閱讀Paper和數據分析與作圖。最後的暑期成果海報製作,學長姐更是耐心仔細地給予我修改上的建議,並幫助我建立回答科學問題的邏輯思維。而陳緯老師則在實習過程中定時關心我的學習進度,給予我研究上和生涯上有力的建議。
實習期間儘管遇到了些許實驗上的挫折,比如為期兩天的細胞實驗失敗差點就要假日也進實驗室,比如測量材料忘記調整參數又要整個重新來過,但這些都只是成為獨立的研究人才需要走過的路。其實這兩個月之於我來說,像是正式開啟我科學研究之路的啟蒙時光,親身體會到科學人才在研究過程中需要具備哪些心理素質和能力,也讓我更有底蘊地朝向更深入的主題研究前進。
再次謝謝基因體研究中心給予我實習的機會,也再次感謝CW Lab全體成員在這一路上的幫助,最後感謝自己在三月初毅然決然丟出申請,才讓現在的我擁有這些成長的養分。
As it is my second summer in GRC, this place has bore witness to my research journey. I vividly remember the first time I learned to micropipette from a fellow summer intern. I also remember my first summer project that completely failed because of a contamination. Looking back, it's hard to believe that I could win the Excellent Award this summer. It's a testament to the extensive resources that the GRC is willing to provide and the nurturing environment of its labs.
Of course this journey has not been a walk in the park, given that I am a foreign student. I've encountered many barriers while trying to communicate my ideas, but the seniors were always very patient and welcoming to my broken Mandarin. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who've made my experience here so fulfilling.
On that note, this summer was quite special, as the organizers prepared some very interesting activities such as ice-breakers and meme contests. Being an introvert, these activities were challenging for me. However, I felt that i could connect with the other interns on a more personal level and learn about their passions.
Once again, I would like to extend my gratitude to all the seniors I've ever studied under. I would highly recommend this summer internship program to any rising researcher who is looking for a supportive study environment and diverse research community.
I entered the GRC summer internship program as a novice, unfamiliar with much of the research and many of the experimental techniques involved. Through observation, note-taking, and repeated practice, I gradually gained confidence. Although the learning process was sometimes frustrating, it taught me that reliable results begin with understanding the rationale behind every step.
Throughout the internship, I explored research on B cells and microglia and learned to turn scientific questions into testable experiments. More importantly, I learned to think more scientifically by considering the purpose of each experiment and evaluating whether the chosen analytical approach could truly address the research question.
I am grateful to my principal investigator for providing clear research direction, to my mentor for patiently working through problems with me, and to the senior lab members for generously sharing their knowledge and experience. Working together to review procedures, interpret data, and troubleshoot experiments was one of the most memorable aspects of my internship.
Over these two months, I grew from an observer into a more independent thinker, able to carry out parts of the experiments and understand the logic behind their design. Above all, I learned to face the unknown with a willingness to keep learning and asking questions. I will carry this courage and curiosity with me as I take on future research challenges.
As the philosopher Michael Polanyi wrote, “We can know more than we can tell.” For a freshman entering the scientific field, there is an enormous amount of tacit knowledge that exists neither in laboratory protocols nor in any online resource. This is the greatest difference between tacit knowledge and explicit knowledge, the latter of which can be learned through college education.
Therefore, to gain a comprehensive understanding of science, the best approach is not to stay in the library cramming textbooks or reading countless research papers, but to participate directly in real laboratory research. That is what I hoped to pursue by applying for this internship.
This internship has been filled with both tears and laughter. There were moments of frustration when an entire week of experiments failed because of mistakes that could have been prevented with more careful planning. Yet there were also moments of excitement, when unexpected positive results encouraged me to keep going.
After walking through the valleys of despair and climbing the peaks of this emotional cycle, I finally reached the end and rediscovered the joy of doing science—the same sense of wonder when I first entered the laboratory.
Finally, I would like to express gratitude to my PI for providing me with this precious opportunity to explore and learn. I also sincerely thank every member of the lab for guiding me through every experiment I conducted during this two-month summer internship.
我是陳韻如實驗室的暑期生俞思羽。這兩個月的實習時光對我而言,是一段既珍貴又美好的回憶。不僅讓我真正了解一個實驗室的樣貌,也讓我學習到一個實驗是如何從發想、設計、操作,到後來的結果分析、修正與改善,再一步步往前推進。其中,我最感激的是,雖然我還只是一個菜鳥,但學長姐們總是很熱心,也願意花時間指引我,提供知識與經驗上的幫助與支持。
這段期間,我不只學習到了許多實驗技能,更重要的是,我開始學會該如何思考、如何在遇到問題時找到方向。此外,暑期生的負責人們也總是對我們照顧有加,除了安排各種活動與課程,也讓我們有機會認識來自不同學校、不同背景的同學。很幸運能在這個暑假遇見這麼多一起努力的人,也很謝謝老師願意給我這個機會進入實驗室學習,讓這兩個月成為一段充實又難忘的回憶。
我是馬徹老師實驗室2026年暑期大專生實習計畫的學生,黃主同。
在本次具探索性質的未知課題中,我從與學長共同討論、規劃實驗流程開始,系統性地學習各項蛋白質純化技術。實驗過程中,我們曾面臨「細胞轉染後蛋白質表現量不足」的重大瓶頸,導致實驗一度停滯。在學長的指導與討論下,我學習如何調整實驗條件與優化,最終順利突破瓶頸,成功推進實驗並完成完整的蛋白質純化流程。
這段經歷不僅讓我熟練掌握了實驗技術,更培養出獨立執行實驗、面對挫折並冷靜解決問題的能力與思維。非常感謝實驗室學長姐的悉心指導,讓我在這個暑期獲得了顯著的成長。但真正留下的,或許不只是實驗的技術,而是如何在不確定中堅持下去——這將會是我未來走進研究這條路上,最珍貴的起點。
今年暑假很幸運有機會到中央研究院基因體研究中心楊懷壹老師的實驗室進行暑期實習。兩個月的實習期間,我接觸到許多過去在學校較少有機會實際操作的研究內容,也更完整地參與了從文獻閱讀、資料整理與分析,到最後成果發表的過程。面對比過去更加龐大且複雜的資料,讓我體會到實際研究並不像課堂作業一樣,每個問題都有明確的答案。當分析結果與預期不同時,需要重新檢視研究流程、資料內容及分析方法,並透過文獻閱讀及討論找出可能的原因與解決方法。這個過程也讓我更加體會到獨立思考以及主動發現問題的重要性。
除了研究上的學習之外,與實驗室老師、學長姐的相處也是這次實習中很珍貴的一部分。實習期間除了受到老師及學長姐耐心的指導,也有機會和學長姐一起籌辦基因體流行病學研習營,在共同準備活動的過程中有更多互動,也讓彼此更加熟悉。實習最後,我順利完成成果發表,也很開心能在暑大生海報競賽中獲得佳作。很感謝楊懷壹老師給我這次實習的機會,也謝謝老師、學長及學姐這兩個月以來的指導與協助,讓這次實習成為我今年暑假非常珍貴且難忘的一段經歷。
Before the internship began, my advisor and I talked about my background in computer science and my long-standing interest in biology, and we decided that I would start with single-cell data analysis — trying to answer biological questions using computational methods. This experience made me more convinced that pairing a CS background with biology genuinely helps: so much of biological research today involves huge, complex datasets, and knowing how to code and design an analysis pipeline can make research move faster and see more clearly.
There were also moments along the way when I got stuck, and my labmates were always willing to sit down, discuss, and help clarify the problem — though actually solving it still came down to working through it myself, step by step.
In the end, this research earned an honorable mention at the summer undergraduate poster competition — an unexpected but grounding affirmation. These two months were genuinely fulfilling, and they’ve made me more confident that combining computer science and biology is a path worth continuing.
